Watching the sunset over the falls is a breathtaking experience that you don't want to miss. The observation tower provides the best views from above the falls.
Walk around downtown (Phillips Ave & Main St)
Downtown Sioux Falls is a vibrant area that is full of life and my most recommended of the top attractions! You can take a walk around Phillips Ave and Main St and explore the local shops, restaurants, and galleries. Go see the beautiful Joseph Cathedral or visit Pettigrew Home Museum or Washington Pavillon. The area is also home to many events and festivals throughout the year.
Ride the Sioux Falls Trolley
The Sioux Falls trolley is a fun and unique way to explore the city. The trolley takes you from the northern Falls Park to the south end of downtown and vice versa. You can enjoy the scenic views of the city while riding the trolley.
Visit the Great Plains Zoo
The Great Plains Zoo is home to over 1,000 animals from around the world. You can see a variety of animals, including tigers, giraffes, and bears. The zoo also offers educational programs and events throughout the year.

One of the biggest draws of Sioux Falls is its abundance of green spaces. Sioux Falls has many other parks that offer a variety of activities. The Outdoor Campus is a great place to learn about nature and outdoor activities. Terrace Park is a beautiful park that offers a variety of recreational activities, including tennis courts and a terrain park. Palisades State Park is also about 30 minutes away.
Visiting with kids in the summertime? They would love Wild Water West, a water park in Sioux Falls, or going to the Great Plains Zoo, located in the Hospital University District.
Have some time and up for a drive? Go check out Badlands National Park (about 3.5 hours away) or Mount Rushmore National Memorial (about 5 hours away). I wanted to also see North Dakota while in the area and took a little trip to another adorable town, Fargo, about 3.5 hours away. Black Hills National Forest, about 5.5 hours away across the Missouri River, is another spot on my bucket list we didn't have time to check out!

During our visit, we had dinner at JL Beers and were blown away by their burgers. I highly recommend trying the peanut butter burger - it may sound unusual, but it's one of the best burgers I've ever had. And if you're looking for a great lunch spot, Josiah's Coffeehouse is definitely worth a visit. Their sandwiches are top-notch, and they're also known for their breakfast offerings.

If you're in the mood for something a little more tropical, check out this tiki bar, Hello Hi. The drinks are fruity and refreshing, and the decor is fun and lively. We didn't have a chance to visit this one, but we've heard great things about it.

Where To Stay in Sioux Falls
Historic Victorian Inn (Bed & Breakfast)
While traveling new places, I love to stay in local inns or bed and breakfasts. I feel like it gives you a better sense of the city, allowing you to meet some locals and get a feel for what it is like to live in this part of the country. We stayed at the Victorian Inn in Sioux Falls and could not have been happier with it! The convenient location, great prices, and old Victorian style made for a great stay in South Dakota.
